A Vote Must Not Be A Payout
Perspective · Excerpts from the statement
A vote must be an expression of a decision. And that decision should be informed by a clear roadmap for development.
What is the candidate’s plan for jobs and economic opportunity? What will they do about education, healthcare and infrastructure? How will they attract investment and create opportunities for young people?
What legislation or policies will they pursue? How will they report back to the people and remain accountable? What measurable outcomes should constituents expect?
Beyond asking for votes, what is the roadmap?
Let elections become a contest of ideas, programmes, competence, integrity, stewardship and accountability. Let citizens organize, ask questions, compare roadmaps and participate actively.
Your vote is your voice. Your vote is your decision. Your vote is a mandate. Do not sell the mandate; interrogate the roadmap.
